Training at NYU, UT Southwestern, and Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital

Dr. Tabbal was raised in New York City and accepted early to New York University School of Medicine, where he earned his M.D. in 2009. He then moved to Dallas for a six-year integrated plastic surgery residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center, training under department chairman Rod J. Rohrich, M.D., and program directors Jeffrey E. Janis, M.D., and Jeffrey M. Kenkel, M.D. During his training, the program was ranked No. 1 in the nation for plastic surgery in the 2014 Doximity–U.S. News & World Report residency rankings. He received the department’s Resident Excellence in Teaching Award in 2015 and co-authored two chapters in the third edition of Dallas Rhinoplasty: Nasal Surgery by the Masters while still a resident.

To concentrate on cosmetic surgery, Dr. Tabbal returned to New York for a one-year fellowship in aesthetic surgery at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital under fellowship director Sherrell J. Aston, M.D. The fellowship was devoted exclusively to cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body.

He then joined UT Southwestern as an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery from 2016 to 2018, teaching residents and operating alongside the faculty who had trained him, before opening his own practice in Frisco in 2019. His complete training history, licensure, and publication list are on his curriculum vitae.

What Sets Dr. Tabbal Apart

Board certification you can verify. The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the only board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties to certify surgeons in plastic surgery of the face, breast, and body. Any licensed physician may legally advertise as a “cosmetic surgeon.” Board certification in plastic surgery requires an accredited plastic surgery residency, written and oral examinations, and ongoing continuing certification. Dr. Tabbal is also an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and The Aesthetic Society, both of which admit only board-certified plastic surgeons. His certificate (ABPS ID 112245, issued November 11, 2017) can be checked directly on the American Board of Plastic Surgery website.

Academic training and published research. Dr. Tabbal has published peer-reviewed articles in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and has written nine textbook chapters, six of them on rhinoplasty, with co-authors who include his residency chairman and his father. His research on liposuction safety and patient safety in plastic surgery informs how he plans surgery today.

The surgeon does your consultation. In many high-volume practices, a coordinator or nurse conducts the initial consultation and the surgeon appears briefly. Dr. Tabbal personally conducts every consultation, examines you himself, and builds the surgical plan with you.

Candid recommendations, including “not yet” or “no.” Dr. Tabbal’s goal is not to pick the right operation for you but the right plan of care, which sometimes means recommending a smaller procedure, a nonsurgical option, or no procedure at all. Read more about his boutique practice philosophy.

Surgery in accredited hospitals and surgery centers. Every operation takes place in an accredited hospital or surgery center with board-certified anesthesiologists and experienced perioperative nurses.

Attentive care after surgery. Dr. Tabbal sees you personally at each and every scheduled follow-up visit. In addition, a dedicated private-duty nurse stays with all of his tummy-tuck and facelift patients for the first 24 hours after surgery.

What His Research Means for Patients

Dr. Tabbal has published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and written nine textbook chapters, six of them on rhinoplasty. For patients, that work shows up in three practical ways: his liposuction and body-contouring plans follow the safety principles he reviewed as lead author of a 2013 paper on the subject; his rhinoplasty consultations draw on chapters he wrote about tip rotation, open versus closed approaches, and revision surgery; and his choice of accredited facilities and anesthesia providers reflects a review of patient safety in plastic surgery he co-authored in 2012. He has also served on education and media committees for The Aesthetic Society and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The full publication list, with links to each article, is on his curriculum vitae.

A Family Tradition in Plastic Surgery

Dr. Tabbal’s father, Nicolas Tabbal, M.D., is a retired plastic surgeon who practiced in New York City for 35 years, and the two have co-authored three textbook chapters on rhinoplasty. Patients searching for “Dr. Tabbal” sometimes find both surgeons: Dr. Geo N. Tabbal is the one who practices in Frisco, Texas.

A Note From Dr. Tabbal

“Every patient takes a leap of faith when choosing a surgeon, and I take that seriously. My job in a consultation is to answer your questions, ideally before you ask them, to give you my candid opinion of what will and will not work for your anatomy, and to tell you when I think surgery is not the right choice. If we do operate, you will have my attention from the first visit through your final follow-up.”
